Welcome to The Mahjong Movement
The Mahjong Movement was born with a few goals:
Create events to help revitalize Chinatown
Create a space to interact with Asian seniors
Bring people together to share culture
Games and sports are the ultimate human unifier - bringing people of all walks of life together to the same table, literally. No game is more representative of Chinese American culture than Mahjong. Rather than an ancient game in China, Mahjong’s popularity is one of Chinese American roots, forged during the 1950s and 1960s with the rise of suburbanization.
In celebration of Chinese American culture, to revive Chinatown and to bring people of all cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds to common ground, we invite you to join us in events that will be inclusive of Chinatown’s residents, players, fans of Mahjong, and spectators of the game. Join The Mahjong Movement! No experience necessary - we will teach you!
Upcoming Mahjong Movement Sessions
We have been hosting pop-up games during the Chinatown Night Market on the 2nd Fridays of each month.
